The history of salt

Cardona is a Catalan village with one of the most important historical heritages. According to the historical documents of Count Borrell II, Cardona appears in 986 although it was reported long ago, associated to the richness of the Saline Valley and it is born under the Castle.

The salt mines exploitation and the settlement of the viscounty of Osona in the Castle for centuries have been the motor of the history of the population and, during the Middle Age, gave the village a leading role in front of the sociopolitical reality of Catalonia.

A present full of future

Cardona, currently bases its economy on the third sector, and works in the development of tourism and culture, based on its natural, historical and cultural heritage.

There are many different proposals to know the village and its historical heritage, such as visiting the Cultural Park of the Salt Mountain, the medieval centre of Cardona or its Castle.
